Come enjoy some great flicks on the largest screen in Central Virginia. This month’s theme of “Back To School” will be its own tribute to John Hughes. Hughes' movies did as much to define and embody that particular cultural era as any other body of work, and they've left an indelible stamp on several generations. UVA Convocation

Occasionally my work life and my personal life meet and I have the chance to attend an event as an attendee, while covering it for news. That was the case with the University of Virginia Convocation Opening Ceremony last Sunday night. Phillip just transferred to UVA, so I taped the ceremony for news, and attended to support him. Here are some photos of the event.

Brew Ridge Trail Music Festival

What a success! Neither rain nor gusty winds kept away fans and beer drinkers. Nelson County--wow! Such a beautiful drive to get down there! The Devil's Backbone Brewing Company did a great job dealing with all of those people--we have a really great meal there on the porch while listening to some Sons of Bill. Perfect. I'm already looking forward to the next one! Best thing? Proceeds went to the Lovingston Opry.

Chick Tragic and The Roosters

Ok, so i almost fell out of my chair the first time I heard Carleigh Nesbit sing on a song called "The Way I Got You Wantin' Me" (check out the youtube video below and you'll understand). For her few years, she sure does have some soul. Carl Anderson and the rest of the crew round out that voice, and I'd go on record to say they are one of my favorite up-and-coming local bands. The stopped in the studio not too long ago, and I jumped into the group shot with them. I've dropped a link below to the myspace page-- I think that may be the best place to see where they are playing and check out their videos, so on. I love Dar Williams. I even forgive her for that album cover where she has the blue tongue. She is super sweet and gave Jeff a great interview and a couple of cool songs for our stash.

Early enough that I missed him by ten minutes. Jeff even tried to stall him a bit for me, but no avail.

Work Day Wrap Up Grand Finale

This is my last day moonlighting for Sweatman on the Last Letter Game for a while since Brad and Melissa come back from Colorado this weekend. I'm a little sad about it, cause its so fun to actually get to talk to everybody about what they want to hear, and lots of times, why they want to hear it.
